任務Task
Capture different motions on Sports Day and plot distancetime graphs of the motions!
Background knowledge:
- A straight line with a slope means theobject is moving with a steady speed.
- A horizontal line means the object is at rest.
- A straight line with a smaller slope means that the object is moving with a lower steady speed.
The slope of the curve keeps changing, which means the speed of the object also keeps changing. In fact, the slope of the curve is increasing with time. It means that the object is moving with an increasing speed. We can also read the graph like this: the object travels a smaller distance in the first t seconds than in the next t seconds, so the speed of the object is increasing.
The curve on the left also represents a nonuniform motion. The slope of the curve is decreasing with time, which means the object is moving with a decreasing speed.
Part A—Use an app to capture motions and plot graphs
You can download the following suggested app:
You can then study how to use it to capture motions and plot the corresponding distance-time graphs.
Part B—Capture different motions on Sports Day
100 m race
標槍Javelin
Hurdle race
Part C—Evaluate and redesign
1.
Present and display your distance-time graphs of different motions. You should also interpret the motion of each sport using the distance-time graphs.
2.
Think about if your results are accurate or not and how to reduce errors during measurements.
3.
Submit Student’s Worksheets to your teacher after the lesson.
Part D—Further resources
If micro:bits or Arduino are available at your school, you can connect them with an ultrasonic sensor and measure the distance travelled of a small object.
